This was a problem i ran into a long time ago. Classic my e30 just cranks but wont start thread. Have you done any spark and fuel testing when it wont start.

If you switch the relay with a different one of the same size and rating same amount of prongs on the bottom than you can try to start the car or listen for the fuel pump to run with the key on.
The fuel pump relay is the one that is farthest away from the firewall.

Hey guys the issue was the fuel pump relay.

Usually occurs after the vehicle sits for a short.
Im also not hearing a fuel pump priming sound when i turn the key to 1 or 2.
What else could keep the fuel pump from making that noise.

Since then i have seen quite a few bmws with this problem.
Verified proper voltage is being sent to the pump from the pumps control module.

Generally you can narrow it down to a fuel system problem an ignition system problem or a mechanical engine problem.
Your bmw might not start for several reasons.
Without proper test equipment you wont be able to test the relay but many of the relays in the box are the same amp rating and size.
Unplug the relay from its electrical connector.
